what did the world summit achieve

the world summit informed leaders of political, economical and social impacts of the internet, and other communication technologies that could help their countries in being able to see the full potential of the internet, three positive points that came out of this are that, people admitted they could do more to help close the digital divide, it informed people about the impact the internet could have on their countries and to what extent, and also it got alot of people to join up. three negative points are that, some countries did not join up so the divide in them countires will continue to grow, some countries dont want to do anything to help close the divide, there is not full political support for the plan. i think this was successful because it allowed countries to be able to see how much the internet could help them out and also got some pollitical support which will help in the future to reach their goal of getting every country to have osme form of media communication by 2015

E-mail in the Solomons

the extent of the divide is that hardly anybody in the area has a computer or much technology at all, this means they cannot comunicate with other people from different regions or with other countries aswell as not being able to use the internet for educations purposes. the problems that caused the divide are that a lack of information about technology around the area made people not want to get it as they do not know how to use it and also the weather conditions make it hard for technology to be around that area. the solutions provided so far are more knowlegde into that area about technology so that people will want to own some as they will know how to use it and what it does and how it can help their lives. a further solution i think would work it to have a wireless connection around the area which would mean people would not need to be conencted to the internet and it would save them money from the connection and they would be more likely to get a computer.

case study Laos

the extent of the divide in Laos is quite high as only a few of them have phone lines and electricity in them regions and even less have computers as the cost of buying one and having it connected to the internet is far too great for the average person there to be able to afford. the problems that have caused the divide are the high costs of ICT in the area, the weather around, lack of It standards, poor ISP service and lack of language support. the impact on the divide is that alot of people cannot communicate outside of their own region of the country very easily because there are normally only a few regions with telephone connections and that can send messages from a mobile. the solutions that have been provided are, cantennae which is using things from around to make recievers to get a connection, a pedal powered wireless computer which connects that area to other pcs for a signal, and learning centres to teach people in the areas about computers and how to use them in there own language. i think the impacts of these solutions would be that learning would get alot easier as alot more places would be able to get access to the internet, people would be able to talk alot more as they would always have a connection, and this would mean that different parts of the region would be able to communicate with each other and before they could not.

the success of wireless technology

wireless technology is a solution because it will allow the countries with computers but no internet to be able to access the internet with no permanent power supply which will mean that they can transfer data to different areas and also use it for things such as e-mails and videos. this will make them countries want to access the internet more as they will be able to see what it is capable of doing. this overcomes the problem of other countries not being able to communicate with other countries as it would let them access the internet and them communicate with other countries and let them know what is going on. the benefits wireless technology has is that it will allow people to communicate alot easier as they do not always need a permanent connection to the internet and it can also be useful for education because it will let people look up things that they want to find out.

reducing the divide

the advantages for the developed world for bridging the divide are that they will have more jobs that people from other countries can do that before they could not be able to do, and also by bridging the gap then they have more ways of trading with other countries and it makes it alot easier to do so as they can do it over computer now instead so it saves time and money.

the advantages for the poorest nations are that they will now have more options avaliable to get money as they can take jobs from other countries which will allow the citizens there to make alot more money than they are making at the moment, this should increase the countries GDP which will as a whole make the country richer.

i think he was right because by matching internet access levels with telephone levels it means that people would be able to make a living off the internet as well as off the phone and by matching the levels of these two things the amount people should make should even out as there are not less jobs in one sector for more skilled people so they should all get the same amount.

i think charities such as computer aid do more good than harm because they help people in other countries to be able to use computers and also this means that the levels of internet access and telephong levels are getting closer to each other all of the time so i think that these charities help.

woman and information technology in sub-saharan Africa

The reasons for effective ICT are technology affects women's and men's work differently, there concern because of women's low participation in the IT professions, the 'IT world' could be dominated by men and that women are discriminated against, as some feminists believe, or just that women find it increasingly difficult to participate in various fields because of the greater demands placed on them, the focus on women gained importance because there is a shortage of skills in the area and women can play a vital role. Women may have certain skills which men often lack, such as business aptitudes, people and communication skills and management potential, there is interest because it is thought that women's jobs are either becoming less skilled or are being displaced by the new technology.

the most pressing need for Africa is to get some reliable power supply, a good transfering network, foregin currency, and computer literate personal to operate the computers .

the computer aid projects have been quite successful as they have helped the people in Africa to learn how to use computers better and also they have made it a better place for computers to be used in since the country used to be quit a hard place to be able to use computer in.

they failed because alot of women did not attend the the technical programmes and they were trying to teach the women there about it more than the men so in this way they failed.

what leads to being on the wrong side of the divide

the things that can lead to being on the wrong side of the divide include things like what country people are in, this is because in the countries with less money the people would not be able to afford computers so this would lead to them not knowing how to use them and also it would make it so that the country as a whole is on that side of the digital divide as no one in the country would be able to afford the computers. also this could mean that the country does not have many people who know how to use a computer very well. this would lead to others not knowing how to use them even if they had the money to buy a computer so it would stop people in the country learning how to use computers and would stop them buying computers if they could afford them as they would not know how to use them if they did have one. this could make the country stay that side of the digital divide for longer than they need to be.

subject directories and search engines

i think this is less useful than a simple search engine because it gives yo alot of different options to choose from and the descriptions are nearly the same so it could easy get confusing for the people who are trying to find things. whereas a search engine is laid out easily to read and shows you parts on the webpage so you will know what it contains and it highlights the keywords so you will know in what context the words you typed in are used and tell if it is the correct website you want with the right information

research initiatives to fund the digital divide

computers within reach - the purpose is to help learners to use a computer and show them how to do things on it and enhance their employment prospects and learning opportunities by providing access to computers. this relates to the digital divide because it gives people without access to computers a chance to use them and access to learning about them aswell. the main target clients are people that have not used computers before and do not kn ow how to use them. the strengths are that it will help people learn how to use computers buts the disadvantages are that it will not help people who know how to use computers so they will get nothing from it. the improvements that could be made are that it could go to other countries to help them with computers aswell.

reducing the divide

The advantages of bridging the gap in the global digital divide is that, more and more people will be able to access the internet, less and less people will be illiterate because technology can be used to help people learn to read and write. Also there will be a lot more jobs for people in the worlds due to the internet, telecoms ect. The advantages for the poorest nations are that they will get more money, there will be more jobs available and the country will earn more money due to this. Clinton was incorrect, matching internet and telephone levels will not help to reduce income equality because there will be a higher rate of income equality because there is more communications available to the people in the world. Charities such as computer aid do better than harm because they are collecting money to help buy computers for people all over the world to help them with illiterately, the computers mostly go to countries that are less economically developed.

ICT and pensioners in rural England

i think techonology does has a genuine impact on the couples lives because it allows them to do things like shopping from home now and if they need to contct people while they are out they can easily now instead of having to wait until they get in to be able to phone anyone. also they can save time by doing things like booking holidays online which will also save money on most websites and even get you better deals than going to the travel agents to book a holiday. there lives would not be too much poorer if they did not have ict because they do not use it enough for it too make too much of a difference to their normal lives, and since they have not used it most of their lives they would just continue how they were. i think the community centre would still be helpful as they can learn stuff in person there instead of trying to buy programs or guides that show you how to use a computer so they will have better practise at using one.

who studies computing subject

7 boys 6 girls are in my applied i.t class so this is quite even in numbers between the two, normally in computing there are more boys than girls in the classes, this could be because boys normally have more of an interest in electronics than girls do so it would explain why more boys are normally in the classes. although in this class that is not true as the numbers is pretty much even. i think that this would have an impact on society by having more men in computing jobs when they go into work which means that most people would probably think that men are better at the job sicne they are normally the ones doing the job.

what is the impact of internet on the homeless

five things that would be more important to a homeless person than the internet are, Food and drink so that they can stay alive and not be hungry, Physical needs like blankets to keep warm, Money to buy the things that he needs, Company so he doesnt go crazy and has interaction with people, and shelter so that he can keep out of the rain.

these things would be better than the internet for a homeless person as they would be needed for them to survive while the internet would only be used to find out information and for entertainment purposes.

subject directory

you can use this directory to find out different things about the internet, if you choose the internet then you can find out alot of different thing under it which will allow you to see whatever you need to.

then from here you can go into different categories and then choose things and a list will come up which allows you to see about everything in that area. this is helpful as it allows you to find what you need to easily as it clearly says the categories and they are easy to find. also there is a search bar for if you do not want to look through everything you can just type it in quick.

society and the individual

We should allow society to 'look after us' to the extent that we still have our freedom, we should not be controlled on what we do each day so that we can still do what we want without feeling restricted. Our individual freedom should still count and matter, society should not be taking away our own individual freedom. Our freedom should not be deprived, but we should allow society to look after us by looking through databases and using technology to find things that could harm us/the society, the things that we cannot do very easily ourselves. this would help protect us while still having the freedom that everybody wants.

monitoring internet and email use

The advantages of content monitoring in an estate agency is the managers can tell if employees are wasting time on the computers during working hours e.g. going on games ect also it can track down the source of a virus if any viruses are found on the computer which saves time from people looking for them.

The negative impacts of this method of monitoring is that the employees might feel not trusted with what they are doing on the computers and could want to leave, also content monitoring may make employees feel like they are being constantly watched by there managers making them feel uncomfortable and make them feel insecure which could lead to them not working properly.

The advantages it has for employees is that it can protect them from any websites that could be a threat to the them and stops them from being in any danger from viruses, also the employees will not be dragged into any inappropriate websites because the content monitoring is stopping any bad websites from being viewed on the computer.

The system can cause problems if the system is only used for business purposes because the system will not allow the computers to be used for any thing else that strictly business purposes, the system could see business purposes as something different than the users which could restrict the amount or quality of their work.

The system should be used but also it should be monitored by someone at the same time to make sure the system is running well and not sending reports to the managers by accident.

teen arrive alive GPS tracking system

The benefits of using a this new technology is that the parents can be sure where there child is anytime they want to check up on them, also this technology can help the emergency services if on the GPS it says that they have had a crash then the parents can contact the emergency services. The drawbacks to having this is that there daughters and sons may think that this technology is invading there privacy, also the GPS could fail and not work or have a technical fault making the GPS show something that is not happening which could then waste peoples time and maybe money if they have to call out the emergency services when it says there is a crash and there is not

discussion us passports and RFID

These passports will save a lot of time but the dangers of this new technology are that there could be fake micro chips which could cause people to have fake identities or easily steal someone's that already exists and this could cause alot of trouble for that person. Also the dangers are that the scanner could fail or not work properly which will make the ID checks slower and less convenient. Also the tags will only be inserted to 1 million passports not all the passports, which there will be no need for the scanners because only 1 million people will have them.

investigating the pros and cons of id cards

The government is proposing to have ID cards for anyone over 16 that is a UK resident the ID cards will provide an easy and secure way for legal UK residents to prove who they are when they apply for services at private businesses, or for government benefits. The ID cards will be able to meet its purposes and also be able to meet the purposes of how it will be used for other things that are not part of its intended purpose. The advantages of having ID cards is that the cards can prove a persons identity and age which can be helpful, also the ID cards will be easy to carry around and not be a huge risk if lost, were as if you use your passport or driving license as ID and lose it, it will be a bigger risk if lost. The disadvantages are that the ID cards may be violating a person’s privacy also if the ID cards are successful then they may become compulsory when a lot of people may not want ID cards. I think ID cards should be aloud but only issued if people want them.

managing information overload

Spreadsheets can keep a lot of information organised and stored together so not much information is overflowing and you would not need two spreadsheets for the same thing every often. Simulation software can enable you to create a simulation on what would happen if you made certain decisions, so that if you run a simulation making a decision and you do not like the out come you can change you decision without changing all the information which helps because you do not actually make the mistake. Data mining tools can greatly help the organisation of data, mining tools can pick out relevent information from a large amount of information.

Making choices

the mobile phone that i would get for my grandmother is the Doro HandlePlus 334 Big Button Mobile
[HandlePlus 334. i think that she should get this phone because it has large buttons so that she can see what one she is pressing. and also it only has 4 buttons which will dial to who they are set to with the names next to them, this means that she can phone people easily without getting confused with all the buttons and other features on a normal phone. the phone does cost quite a bit of money but it is worth it for how simple it is to use and easy to get along with. it has easy and simple key locks and sos button which can be seen as they are big buttons. with an easy to read display so they will not need to try and see it.

Impact of games players

Computer games are so popular because it is new technology making the games more and more detailed and realistic so the gamers are getting a better gaming experience all the time also making the graphics a lot better makes the games stand out more. Also younger people have free time to play so the new technique of playing games becomes more appealing to younger players. Computer games can and cannot make you more violent, if you do not understand the difference to being violent in life and violence in the game you are more likely to become violent than someone who can easily tell the difference. If you do understand the difference between violence in games and violence in life then you are not going to become more violent. Computer games can make you more isolated because you can become more into games and less into having a social life which means you will spend more time in your house, this is also because some computer games become addictive to the gamers. Networked computer games make you more social because you are communicating and playing with lots of people around the world instead of being on your own playing a game all day.

Pirated entertainment

The advantage of paying a supplier such as Apple for legal music downloads is that you have legally downloaded the music so you have the right to use the music without being accused of illegally downloading music and also this would mean you get the best quality of the music you are downloading. Also downloading from a supplier such as Apple you can trust what you are downloading is the correct thing and does not contain any viruses. The disadvantages of buying a pirated DVD from a market stall is that the DVD quality will be very bad, there might be people moving around and the sound could be bad. The disadvantages of getting a pirated copy of a new Hollywood blockbuster before its UK release is that, the DVD will not be able to work on any UK DVD player, also you are more likely to be caught for copyrighting. The disadvantage of visiting an illicit music download site is that you IP address could be noted by them which they can send you viruses and messages ect and also you IP could get taken from the police if they are monitoring the website and you could get prosecuted for it. Widespread of illicit downloading does discourage the funding of new talent because sales would go down due to illegal downloading, and new talent will not make as much money because of illegal downloading.

Access to original entertainment

Original entertainment has never has been easier to publish, sites like www.youtube.com make it very easy for users to publish entertainment quickly and without much effort so people tend to put up anything they have done because it is so easy to upload. Also sites that have blogs and writing walls make it very easy for users to publish entertainment such as images and write about things that they have done so that others can read it. Furthermore entertainment is easily accessed by users because of how easy it is to publish it now.

Original entertainment is harder to find now though because as it is so easy to upload things everybody is adding new things each day that are different so it is hard to find things now that have no already been uploaded to the internet in one way or another.

Finding reliable, valid information

The websites i just viewed are all hoax websites which means that they contain information that is not true, this could be for a number of reasons, to scam you out of money, give you a virus ect. We can see form them that the information displayed was incorrect and untrue because, the information may have spelling mistakes, limited evidence, photo shopped images, unheard of theory’s or a badly put together website, the information is not kept up to date and has very bad evidence to support there theory’s. The signs that should make us distrust a site is that the site may have incorrect spelling as most sites that are properly used are checked for spelling when somebody writes something, and if it doesn't have very good evidence to support there evidence also things like spam and strange ad's may make you distrust a site because it will send round to everyone and has more chance of containing a virus at the same time.

Evaluate your communications

The communication that I use is different for the different uses i want to use it for, for example I use email to send important files to other email accounts such as sending teachers course work as it is reliable and I can add attachments to it I also use it to send work to myself from school if it is unfinished so i can do it from home. I use SMS and voice communication on my mobile phone to contact people instantly and to socialize as it is easier to communicate this way and things do not get misunderstood. I use IM to socialize with my friends for instantly replies and I also use it to send files such as photos and it is all free so i can stay on it as long as i want to talk without worrying how much it will cost.
I best communication that I use is voice communication because it gives an instant reply rather than having to wait for them to log onto their account to check there emails or check there mobile phone for a text.

when do i use mobile phones

The purposes that I use my mobile phone are. I use it to SMS text friends also to have conversations with friends and family and also I use it for its media for example MP3 player, camera, camcorder.
I use my mobile phone anywhere, I use it at home, when I am out ect. I use whenever I need to contact someone for some information or when I am contacted so this means I do not need to be home or next to people to talk to them or for them to contact me.

The major benefits of me using my mobile phone is that, my mobile phone can be used almost anywhere, my mobile phone can contact any number at anytime I want it to as long as i have battery and signal, my mobile phone does not just contact people but also can be used for entertainment, its extra applications such as alarm clock, calendar ect.

The major disadvantages of using a mobile phone is that it can only be used to contact people if it has some signal strength. Also the mobile phone battery is not a very long lasting battery and needs to be recharged every few days so if this runs out you can no longer use your phone

My mobile phone fulfils its intended purposes of being able to contact people I want it to, being able to use its alarm clocks, calendars ect.

when do i use email

The purposes that i use email for;
1.I use email to send important work files to people, also I use email to send important information to contacts that I do not have any other contact information and also to send work to myself if it needs finishing so that i dont have to carry a key round with me all the time.
2.I use email on any computer at home or at college, I use it by logging into an online internet account which then can enable me to send and receive emails.
3.The major benefits of using email is that email is very quick it will get to the contact email address very quickly. Also emails are free of charge to send.
4.The problems/disadvantages of using email is that email can only be used or accessed if you are connected to the internet. Also you can only send a email to someone if you have there email address.
5.Email makes you more productive when you have to send out important information and important files to other accounts as you can send it to alot of people all at once.
6.Email makes you less productive because some people may not reply to the email instantly, where as with voice communication the person is instantly replying so this could keep you waiting for long periods of time.
7.Emails fulfil their purpose by being able to exchange information and files to other people.

digital communication vs voice communication

Communcating with SMS in text language does have some social downsides compared to have a proper voice conversation, communicating with text language may confuse some people, because they may not understand your text language. Also using SMS it cannot show body langauge to what someone is saying, some body language cannot be read in SMS e.g. sarcasim cannot be as easily read in SMS than it would be in person so things could be taken the wrong way and you could end up upsetting someone quite easily or have them misunderstand you.

There are social downsides in an e-mail for example body language can'not be read, rather in a short conversation body language is easily shown. Also not every person has e-mail account or may not always check their e-mail accounts, so e-mails may not be read or there may not be a reply. this would mean that in some situations voice communication would be better because you could tell the emotions from their voices and then work out how they mean things and understand them better.

Analysing the good old days

1. they could have used word to help them with their presentations and talks that they were doing through meetings, and also to send to other people so that they could see the information without being in the same room and having to talk about it. also they could have used spreadsheets so that they could put the numbers into it and then it would work out all the calculations for them and they would not have to figure it all out and then send it to their secretary to type it out.

word is better than paper systems because it will auto spell check your work and save you having to look through it for mistakes, also it will let you make a table from information without you having to draw one out. and this is better than excel because it will let you write letters as well.

spreadsheets would be better because they will automatically work out sums for you and different calculations, also it will put the data in a easy to read way. this is better than word because it can work with numbers for you and save you time.

secretaries and typists would not be needed as much after these came out because anybody could type it up and would not have to check everything because it has spell checker on it so you will spell everything correctly. also this would mean that they would get paid less and the job is alot easier

new job opportunities would have been opened up for people that could use these programs so that they would enter the data correctly and make sure everything was working the right way so that the numbers would not be worked out wrong.

Ambulance services

some workers have objected to sitting in the place that is most efficient because they are used to sitting in the ambulance centre watchign tv, and eating while they wait for calls to come in and then they will quickly get in the ambulance and drive to where they are needed. and they prefer this from sitting in the ambulance at sites where they aremost likely to get called out to at that time of the day because they cannot do much while they are there and also they will have to work alot more time through the day than what they had previously had to. othee drawbacks of this are that is there is more acciedents at a place that is not normally like it then there will not be as many people left to be able to get there as they would all be waiting at other places for accidents to happen. this will mean that some people may have to wait longer for an ambulance to get there.

the benefits of this are that since some places do have more accidents at different times of the day then the ambulances are ready to help them so if there is a call made to that part then it will only take a few seconds or minutes for the ambulance to get there and can help more people as they will already be there waiting and not have to travel from the station.

Toolman

John could use a PDA to allow him to write down what clients want when he is with them, and also keep track of things that they say. this would stop him having to carry round big folders with information in to tell to customers as he could keep it all on the PDA which would just fit into his pocket. this would make his life alot easier as it would reduce the amount he would need to take with him.

John could use a GPS to guide him to where his clients are, this would mean that he does not get lost on the way to the new clients that he gets and will always be on time. this would help him cause he could be more efficient by getting places on time and then get more people done in one day by not being late, also this would mean he does not need to carry around a big map with him as he would know where to go as the GPS would guide him to the place.

John could use a Laptop to make spreadsheets to make records of what the clients are going to buy and how much it will cost them to buy that amount of items, thing would mean that John would not have to carry around serveral folders with the information in and work it all out himself which would save him time and make more money cause he could get the job done quicker and therefore see more people in one day and earn more money.

John could use a mobile phone to help with GPS as some phones have them included with it, which would save him even taking a GPS with him, also it could write down notes that he would need from the customers. and it could be used as a calculator so he would not need to bring one with him and could just use a phone to make the calculations he needs.

Finally John could use the internet to find out other competitors prices on things to make sure that people will go to him to buy things, also if he was skilled enough he could make or get someone else to make a webpage so that clients could enter what they want and their details on there and then he could just take it too them. this would make it much more time effiecient and get him more money.

Disadvanages of him using all this ICT is that he could mess up one part of it quite easily since he has not used it before so he could either get lost, or enter the wrong things and the clients pay too much/too little for what they are getting and he would not have the proper figures for how much he has and how much that he is making.

Overall through all these points there are more ways that using technology could help John with his work and make him more efficient. but there are ways that which it could also make it worse for him if he is badwith computers or is bad at entering numbers accuratly or working with different machines then it will make him slower at working or possibly be late to clients and also will not have a map so he could not find them.

Barclays –this online bank lets you do most of the things that you can do by going down to the branch, this includes checking how much money you have in your account/accounts, setting up a standing order, seeing what sort of accounts that you can get, entering for a loan, and seeing what type of insurance you can get from them. the downside is that you still have to go down to the branch to put money into your acocunt.

HSBC- this online bank allows you to see all of your acocunt information like how much money you have and what account type you are on. also from the website it will let you see a list of investments that you could invest in and also see how they are doing. also it will let you see your business's details if you have a business acount with them. also you can make bill payments, manage direct debits and also set up standing orders.

the purposes of online banking is to save time and effort with your bank so you can do alot from home without having to go down to the bank as sometimes it will seem really complicated. but online it is designed to be as simple as possible so that anybody can do things easily with no hassle.
The target audience is anybody who has a bank account and the major advantages are that you can nearly do anything that you can at a bank from home.

In the future of online banking they could improve by having increased security. instead of having strong passwords they should have randomly generated password tockens. this would make the online banking more secure so that less people would be able to get into your account.

nintendo wii online services for games
websites that use flash based games
downloaded games that run through the internet
and also streaming websites

The purpose of this technology is to provide entertainment for the people that are using it, for this they need to make it simple to use and easy to manage so that people will not get annoyed using it and just give up. This technology is aimed for everyone at any age that would use it. Sometimes if you are playing a game or watching something it may have an age rating on which in these rare cases it is aimed at people normally over 18. the nintendo wii is enhanced by being online as it allows you to play against others that you would not normally play against if it was not online which makes it more fun also it lets you get new games off of the internet designed for the wii that you can only get from there which means it has advantages and also you can play games whichout having to leave your house to get them, the limitations are that it cannot run IM software and also that not all the games for it are available to play online. this means it is not at its full potential as it does not run all the online services people want it to.

Activity 20

things that me and my family have downloaded off the internet include:
music
games
movies
text documents
images
software

we got these off the internet instead of going out and getting them because it saves time and most of the time if you do it from the internet then you can get a discount or sometimes you can only get certain things like some software from the internet so you have to. also it is alot quicker than going out to buy them and you have them straight after download. this furfills its purposes as it gives you what you need quickly and easily without you haveing to go out and buy it, some people will also get things online as they do not know what shop would sell them or if the things are sold in this country.

problems with downloading these things is that if its not from a trusted source it could contain virus's, also someone may have put something else on the other end of the download so you would not be downloading what you think, sometimes it can be illegal, and also it can take a long time to download depending on the file size.

Information services: Directgov.co.uk website provides a lot of information for the user about the topic that they want to know about from a variety, it provides information like the benefits you can get which will help out people that are not to sure about something to do with it but do not want to phone up cause they are shy or would not know how to phrase what they want to find out in a way that the other person would be able to understand it. A lot of information is displayed on this website from education and learning to government, citizens and rights, all this information could be very useful for any user that uses this website as it would let them know all about what they wanted to find out in a good amount of detail.

Online reporting and advice: this website offers a lot on its reporting and advice as it tells you exactly what is happening right now in the world to do with what age you are so you will know whether or not it will affect you at this point in time or if you do not need to read it just yet which will save you time when you are on the website, also it will help you in what you can do if something does affect you and you are worried about it, it will give you contact numbers ect.

Online booking: this website has web pages that will allow you to do things like pay your tax, national insurance, find a job and book tests for a car or motorcycle straight from this website so you do not have to leave your house or spend ages trying to look for sites that will allow you to do these things online as they are all in one place which means that alot of your time will be saved and you will not get all the websites that pretend to do ti and then when you get on them you find out they are fake.

Online Payments: The website provides some information on how to pay online but has many different headings which lead onto other things to do with payment which may be irrelevant to what you are looking for but it does eventually when you find it allow you to do online payments which will make everything alot easier than going onto other websites.

Usefulness to customers:
1. online booking
2. online advice
3. information services
4. online payments

I think this statement is incorrect as it said that they hope to save £1.3 million not that they actually managed it but doing all of this would have saved people money as they would not need to go to them which would take time and petrol or phone them which would then increase peoples phone bills.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/websites/16/ this would be at the top of my list because it has a lot of different things that you can do on the website, it lets you select an age category, and take test, and if you don't want to do that there is a space just for revising.

http://www.bayhouselearning.co.uk/ this would be second on my list as it has information relevant to the subjects that i am taking at the moment and also they contain a lot of information explaining what needs to be done and how to do it. this is only second as it lacks pictures and only has text document most of the time.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/learning/ this one is third on my list as it has videos on the website allowing you to see what you need to do and also contains a lot of information but its limited and not always what you need it to be on.

http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk/ this is fourth on my list as it is good at explaining things would it only uses text on the website and completely lacks video and pictures out so you cannot understand it as easily as the others.

http://jc-schools.net/tutorials/Interactive.htm this is last on my list because although it is done with pictures and videos it is mostly aimed at gcse students and is not laid out very well making it hard to find out where you are on the website.

the best out of these was http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/websites/16/ because it includes videos, audio and games to make it fun for the people on the website while still learning, and also if you wanted to know more then there is enough text to help you fully understand things.

online learning is good because it allows you to see a video of a certain topic and shows you how to do things and the steps involved in doing it, also alongside the video is a voice clip that gives step by step easy to follow instructions that allow you to hear what it happening at the same time as seeing it to help you understand, also this starts from the very beginning of the topic you are learning so if you do not know anything about the topic then you will see it all from the start and be able to understand it. also it will allow you to pause the video clip and try out the things that you have been taught so you will know if you can do them or not and then if you cannot do them you can put the video back a bit and rewatch it.
But the disadvantages of this are that since it starts from the beginning if you already know most of it but you only need to find out a certain piece of information you would have to watch nearly the whole video as they are usually quite long and hard to find the bit that you want. also it goes over points alot so if you dont know anything it is good but if you know most of it just not how to do something it will explain every step and usually takes a while until you can find out how something is done

Activity 16

This techonology is good because it allows people to learn things when they are not in school, for example if they are at home and wanted to learn something then they could load up the webpage and do it straight away, also if you have a laptop connected to the internet thn you could do it where ever. This is also good as it talks clearly so that you can understand what it says and also has a video so that you can watch as they do things and not get lost along the way.

The things that this techonology can offer that traditional learning cannot is that if you did not understand some of it after it explained it you can just replay it so that you can see it again and again untill you understand it where as in class you might be too shy to ask about it again and or you might have someone stood in the way so you cannot see things properly, but using this techonology you are the only person watching it from where you are so you will easily be able to see it. This also lets you learn things that you cannot learn at school and ask questions instantly to your teacher.

The disadvantages of this are that you might start watching it then get distracted by something else around the house and end up not paying attention. also you have to log into the classrooms at the right times to be able to take the lessons and you need the piece of softeare to be able to use it which means you need to download things to your computer. plus there is no alternative way of learning so you have to get it described to you the same way all the time so if you dont understand how they ae explaining it then it will be hard to do anything.

I find these discussions really useful as it lets you access information that you want to view and will let you have an input about a certain topic that you want to view and let you see other peoples opinions on it as well.
One limitation of this is you could be waiting for quite awhile for a response if the topic is not very viewed or if no one goes onto it in a little while so you may not get a response.
But on the other hand a benefit of using this is you can find people opinions on a topic without having to know them or talk to them directly through email or messenger so it lets you find out a variety of opinions from writing one thing.

http://frog.edschool.virginia.edu/

I think that the website is a good idea to look at before practising because it lets you see what you need to do so you can follow it to not mess up, also it shows all the different parts, labels them and tells you how to pin it and how to go about removing parts which will help the students to dissect, the frog correctly and learn more about it. also this means if the student is not actually dissecting the frog they will still see all of the steps on how to do it and also see what it is like from the website.

this teaches us that online simulations are good to use for educational purposes as well as for entertainment as it will help out students to know what they are doing even if they are not doing it themselves as they will see it through the video and pictures step by step. this is also different to how you would be taught at school as you see it done right infront of you instead of in a classroom so you can understand it easier and if you dont hear what they are saying you can read it in the text so you will always know what is happening.

This site suits its purpose of teaching people the history of computers as it teaches people about how to computer came to be and how each stage of the computers we have now were made and why. this is good because it will let people know what really happened and in alot of detail. it also lets you know when the first home computers were around, why computers were used in the times of war and also why they were invented in the first place. This site also explains the important things like who invented the world wide web and how they came to do it (from using html). it also explains how the internet helped the world evolve and how it was a massive boom in that days society.

This teaches us that online education keeps getting better and new things come all the time that will make it better and help it to improve and these are made by normal people sitting at computers and just coming up with ideas, not people who devote their whole lives to it.

the major purpose of ebay is to let people buy and sell stuff over the internet without them being near the item to buy it, this increases the things the person can buy. the target audience is any adults as it sells almost anything but you mostly use a credit card to buy the items which you would need to be an adult to buy the items. the auction process works by the seller setting the starting price and what it has to increase by (minimum) every bid, then people bid against each other until the time runs out on the item and the highest bidder wins, on some items there is a buy now option from which you can buy the item straight away without bidding for an amount the seller sets. it furfills these purposes good as it allows someone to buy anything easily if the win the bid and has options to just buy if you dont want to bid. the benefits are you can get alot more choice than if you go to a shop as nearly everything is sold on there, the limitations are that you could get outbid at the last second alot of the time and then need to start all over again on another item.

ebay is so successful as a shopping model as it allows a variety of choice in an easy to manage system that anyone could buy things off of.

*emails are used so that people from all across the world can keep in contact with other people
The Giant Petenis says:
*it also allows you to talk to people when they are not online but you are so you do not have to wait for them
Sam says:
*this is true...but, it's not all that good if you have a dial up connection as you have to spend loads of money accessing your emails and sending emails if you're with an online email client like hotmail
The Giant Petenis says:
*i agree and you can also say something on a email and not give expression so it can be taken the wrong way from which you meant it
Sam says:
*ah yes...oh and also, emails are instant - so you can't have a real time conversation with someone which can be quite inconvient
The Giant Petenis says:
*but it is good as you can add attachments and send them to someone which you would otherwise have to either give to them in person or wait for them to come online to send a file
Sam says:
*oh yeah, that is good...but then again, you can get viruses from the attatchments...
*unless you scan them with an antivirus
*but then that costs money and takes up time with scanning the files

this also shows that Friday will have sunnyintervals but it has not been sunny anywhen through the day but also not rained.

This said that saturday will have heavy rain/showers but has not rained where i am all day.

it shows that sunday it will have sunny intervals which it has had most of the day

this shows that monday was meant to have sunny intervals, and todays weather was sunny with clouds sometimes so this was correct

this says that tuesdays weather will have sunny intervals which it did all day

I got this information from uk.weather.com which shows that today it will be cloudy, saturday it will also be cloudy and will stay like that till monday, then on tuesday it will be sunny

this shows that friday will be partially cloudy which was correct most of the day

This said that saturday will be partly cloudy as well which is wrong because it was sunny for nearly all the day.

this shows sunday will be partly cloudy which is has been most of the day

This says monday will be partly cloudy, which it was sunny most of the day so it is not as accurate as the other

this shows that tuesdays weather will be sunny which it was not all day but was some of the day.

from these results i found out that BBC weather was more correct as it got more that were nearer to the correct weather.

the information i got was from http://www.swt.trainsfares.co.uk/Buy_Tickets/Matrix/Display_Matrix.asp?T2ID=5707_200991891452 (yes this did work when i added it) this was for the 18th of september 2009.
the journey would take around about 2 hours and 50 mins with changes being either one or two.
this is going from the train station in portsmouth harbour to tottenham hale.
a single ticket would be £32.00 for a single trip.
Altho this would not let you get to exactly where you want to go so you would have to walk to the place or get a bus/taxi afterwards. i found this source useful as it gave a varity of tranis to choose from at different times and told you when they will go and stop and also how many changes you need to makes while you are on them. and it also displays the prices very clearly and you choose whether you have a return or not so you dont see every price and get confused.

It is 82.5 miles to get there and would take a total of roughly 2 hours and 7 mins depending on th traffic. this goes directly there and goes through Guildford and Fulham to get there. i found this source really useful as it lets you choose anywhere to go and tells you how to get there and you can even choose to avoid motorways or tolls and it will give you n alternate route if there is one avaliable. it also gives you a map so you know where you are going along with the dirctions so you wont get lost.

E-mail is a online service that people use to exchange digital messages, e-mail messages are based on a store and forward model. Which is where e-mail computer systems accept the e-mail from the user, store it, and then forward it to the recipient. The only thing the user needs to do is connect to the e-mail infrastructure for the duration of writing and sending the message. E-mails are very rarely transferred from one persons computer directly to someone else’s.

An E-mail consists of two things, the header and the message body. The header contains all the information needed to send the e-mail (your email address and the recipients email address) also you can add the subject in here. The message body is what you are sending to the other person, these are either: text, an attachment or both.

Email can be used when you are online no matter if the other person is at the same time or not, they will receive the message next time that they log into their e-mail account.

Activity 1

1. The purpose of this book is to let the reader know what has been done in the past for make digital inventions sell so good and change the world. And also to let them know what they can do to get there things to sell good as well.

2. It is in a HTML document which means that it is displayed on a webpage and you do not need to download the file to see it.

3. The structure is given in order from making the killer app from start to how to sell it effectively. this is done in a list in the correct order of what you would need to do.

4.The navigation avaliable is that you can scroll down with your mouse, also you can click to go to the next page at the top of the screen so you dont have to keep moving your hands, you can grab the page and move it up and down by moving the mouse, and you can choose which chpater to go to from a drop down list at the top of the page.

5. The strengths of it are that it is simple to use so you dont have to do much to read it, also you can get to where you want in the book quite fast as it has alot of different way of mavigation which you can choose the one which suits you best. Also you can change the zoom on it to allow you to zoom in if you cannot see it very well or zoom out to get more of the text on the screen at one time and since it is on a website you can add sound and images to it easily. Its weaknesses are if you wanted to download the book from a website then it would be quite a big file and also come in a .exe file which are commenly used to transfer viruses to your computer so your firewall may not let them through.

6. This Ebook does furfill its purpose as it lets you read a book on the internet with little effort and can allow for extra content to be put into it to make it even better for the reader.

what im using ICT for

at the moment im using ICT to listen to music, speak to people online and also get some homework done (including this actually). and later on i will use ICT to print off my work

Online Services

This is my personal audit about things to do with the information age and the online services, i will be putting all my research and information on here as i get it. Outside of schoool i am part of a swimming club and i use ICT alot at home, i use my mobile alot for texting and making phone calls, i also use the computer alot to play games, help with work, and to communicate with other people. (and i cant change the colour of the background because computer wont let me so i plan on doing it when i ge home)
